Boyd Enterprises was founded in 1962 by Dick Boyd (1929-1992), who had been working in pet stores since 1947 at the age of 17. He developed a love and passion for the aquarium hobby. Shortly after that he began experimenting with various types of his own filtration techniques, which led to the discovery of the world renowned Chemi-pure. The ORIGINAL ion filter medium! In 1955, Dick Boyd along with three others founded the first marine aquarium society in the United States. (FMAS Florida Marine Aquarium Society www.fmas1955.org) In 1972 along with his wife (who still runs the company) were looking for their first house. They found a house where he could build his dream aquarium. By 1972 he began construction on a 3,000 gallon aquarium. By 1974 it was up and running with many types of corals, fish and invertebrates.
