As one of the top-rated UPN stations in the country, UPN 33, WBFS-TV has always had the commitment to be the best television station in South Florida. When we first went on the air as an independent station in 1984, our mix of movies, comedies and kids programming immediately made WBFS-TV a favorite. But that was only the beginning. In 1995, two big events changed the course of our station forever. First, we became a charter affiliate of UPN, the United Paramount Network. And, more importantly, the station was purchased by Viacom, Inc., and became a part of the Paramount Stations Group. UPN's breakout status in South Florida, combined with Viacom's commitment to quality, have made UPN 33 one of the top-rated UPN stations in the country. As a result, UPN 33 WBFS-TV was named "UPN Affiliate of the Year" in 1997.
